#TheAviators #Angels Squadron Update

October 11,  2015 Update

(Editor’s note:  #TheAviators #Angels, a specialty squadron of #TheAviators @theaviatorsclub on Twitter.  #TheAviators are goggled anipals who Twitter fly.  Angel Peggy @MundarePeggy is one of #TheAviators Leadership Team and Squadron Captain of #TheAviators #Angels.) ********

Hello everyone,  I’m Angel Peggy @MundarePeggy  (#TheAviators #Angels Squadron Captain)   It is 20 months ( on October 19, 2015) since the #TheAviators #Angels  Squadron first took flight.  I want to thank everyone who has supported this venture since the beginning.

Special mention should go to #TheAviators Leadership team of @ToddyFur (Toddy Furrington),  @3DogsWhite (Daisy and Taz) and @clingycat (Jazz) and my sisfur @lucky_GSD (Miss Lucky).   Without their hard work and support the Angels Squadron would have never taken flight. I would also like to thank the members of the #TheAviators #Angels Squadron who selflessly give of themselves whenever a flight takes place.

As of  Sunday, October 11,  2015 – #TheAviators #Angels  will have completed 93  flights honoring 98 pets since we flew our inaugural flight of introduction in February of 2014.

#TheAviators #Angels celebrating their 1st Anniversary on Twitter STORIFY by Captain Hugo @hugo4de for @MundarePeggy, @theaviatorsclub and #TheAviators #Angels

Year 1 – 59 separate flights honoring 64 pets.

“Define what your brand stands for, its core values and tone of voice, 60and then communicate consistently in those terms.”
Simon Mainwaring

When the idea of the Angels Squadron was first proposed, it was unanimously agreed upon the fact that we would hold true to two core values.  The ideas of flying with dignity and gentle decorum as well as the belief that it was important for families to come to us for assistance rather than “chasing ambulances.”

Sometimes, in our excitement and enthusiasm to help we need to remind ourselves to exercise patience and caring at all times.

“Step with care and great tact, and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act.”   Dr. Seuss

The purpose of the Angels Squadron is to give immediate support and comfort to individuals and families of pets that are critically ill and/or have already gone Over The Rainbow Bridge. (OTRB – pet passed away).  Unfortunately, we do not do tributes for mass groups like the stray dogs in Sochi. I feel that this is not the proper platform to honour such tragic events.

For all our Twitter pals as well as members of #TheAviators:

1 .   A close pal to you or your own pet has gone OTRB.   Please have the affected family make direct contact with me to first give permission for a special flight and secondly to help plan that flight.   We think it important for family to be flight involved.  Don’t worry if there is a time delay.   Sometimes families need that extra time to get over the  initial and overwhelming shock of a pet loss.  Once a family has given permission for a flight,  they do sometimes also grant permission to a close relative, friend or pal to work flight plans and details.

2.  Pals can certainly let other pals know about #TheAviators #Angels.

3.   If you have a question about whether or not there is a tribute flight scheduled for a friend of yours, please don’t hesitate to ask me. Often times, the others of Leadership team or #TheAviators HQ staff will not be aware of a tribute flight until the details of the flight have been finalized.

4.  Rainbow Bridge Escort  and Honours Flyby or Flypast  are the two specific tribute flights #TheAviators #Angels do for the OTRB.

A Rainbow Bridge Escort is a formal flight that represents escorting and safely delivering a pet passed away to the Rainbow Bridge.

The Honours Flyby is a more relaxed flight that celebrates the life of a pet well-loved and is more suitable for when a pet has been OTRB for some time.

When the affected family have granted permission we decide the time and date (schedule) and the type of flight they would like us to fly.  What I need from the family is 1-4 pictures plus fond memories the family is comfortable sharing.  When a family has no available pictures please let me know.  I still need memories they are comfortable sharing.    To view and follow the flight on Twitter we always use #TheAviators #Angels hash tags.  (Click on picture to bring up for better reading)

Angels Family Poster

5.  FLIGHT LEADERS TEAM – are you available or want to help plan a mission? Please contact me.

6.   Our Angels Squadron is made up of both OTRB  (Over The Rainbow Bridge) as well as living members of #TheAviators.  It would not be possible to fly these tribute flights without them and assistance from members of #TheAviators who may not have joined the Angels Squadron but are available and do fly support along with the Angels.

All “mission” notices are sent by Direct Message from myself to the members of the Angels Squadron. We do this out of respect for the feelings of the affected family and to ensure flight notices are not lost in timelines.  The club account tweets one flight notice announcement. Members of and  followers of #TheAviators and the family of the departed pet are welcome to copy/paste – RT – quote – as they desire.

All #TheAviators flyers are always welcome to fly with our squad and tweet content appropriate to the flight at hand.  If you as one of #TheAviators are interested in being placed on #TheAviators #Angels Squadron list to be notified of flights via DM (direct message) – please tweet me @MundarePeggy.

7.   In the event that you find a situation that the Angels Squadron can be of assistance, please take the time to let me know.  If you would like to make a special contribution (eg Missing Man Formation) for a friend that we are planning a tribute for just send me a Direct Message. When there is a tribute flight comes up that you are interested in leading,  please let me know as soon as possible.

8.  We also invite friends and pals of the Twitter account we are flying for to tweet-in during the missions.

9.   Presently the club  uses this same #TheAviators #Angels process for our own #TheAviators who go OTRB.  If the family wants us to have a special flight, we will be privileged to especially honor our club friends.  Please feel free to tweet or Direct Message me.  Again, it is still vital the family give flight permission first! Then if that family wants to designate a close relative, friend or pal to assist with planning please let me know right away.   We want to assure #TheAviators #Angels has a prepared flight.

10.  Questions, concerns, suggestions for improvement. Please use the comments below and/or find me on Twitter @MundarePeggy and tweet or DM (direct message) me as you want to.

Thank you all for taking the time to read these #TheAviators #Angels updates.

( Thank you #TheAviators HQ staff along with @3DogsWhite for your editing and publishing help. )

To those of you who have experienced the death of a pet or animal during any time period that was special and beloved to you:

#TheAviators  –   @theaviatorsclub  is a Twitter club (organization) of goggled anipals that Twitter fly Quarterly Tribute Missions.

The Quarterly Tribute Mission – OTRB Remembrance Day – is for honoring and remembering pets and animals that have passed away.  OTRB means “Over The Rainbow Bridge”.

Please see the Time Zones and Cities Chart further below in this post for the scheduled time in your part of the world.  Each flight is a one hour program.

Invite

Club members (Twitter flyers) prepare their own tribute lists and bring them to their flights.  We invite YOU,  both humans and anipal Twitter accounts to remember (tweet your OTRB pictures and/or memories) during these #TheAviators Quarterly Flights.

HOW TO TAKE PART and JOIN-IN

YOU CAN REMEMBER a pet or number of pets that have gone OTRB at anytime in your lives and YOU ARE WELCOME TO DO SO.  Simply tweet in remembrances of your departed pet (pets) with a picture or a few tweets of  your great memories, using the hash tag #TheAviators in each of your tweets. (No need to put in a twitter address,  just the hash tag #TheAviators works well.)

#TheAviators Hash Tag Tweet Page ( ALL TWEETS as shown on direct Twitter) to be able to follow the flight program

Special note to the anipal hash tag groups we send this invitation to – if you need to include your hash tag with ours to tweet-in, we are ok with that.   An example would be like a pet gone OTRB that is a #wlf member  (#wlf means Whiskers Liberation Front).

Guests with  protected tweets locked account that want to be seen in the hash tag stream during the mission will need to unlock your account to be seen in the #TheAviators hash tag stream.

#TheAviators fly twice on October 17, 2015 – so that pets world-wide may be remembered at the time most convenient to those who would like to  honor them with tweets.    Each Flight is a one hour program.

October 17, 2015   –  Time Zones and Cities Chart – Select the city closest to where you live for both sessions, check the time.  Then choose the session and time that is most convenient for you.  Clicking on the chart will enlarge for better reading/viewing.   Mission Leaders will be announced once they have volunteered and comfirmed.

Flyers Step 2:   Prepare your personal tribute list in advance.

Who are you going to tweet tribute for this flight?

Family pet members (from any time period who have passed away), close pals and friends? – – – ->  Simply gather their picture(s) if you have available and think about what you would like to say in your tweet or tweets. If you have no pictures, then it is fine to tweet your memories.  Remember to use #TheAviators hash tag in each tweet. Sample tribute tweets are posted at the bottom of this blog post. If you as a flyer do not have specific pet or pets to remember, our Twitter guests will always appreciate a retweet of their remembrances.

We send a public invitation for guests to take part and join-in.

Remember OTRB with #TheAviators –  17 OCTOBER INVITE FOR TWITTER PUBLIC  – For people and pals who have had pets pass away at any past time they would like to tweet-in and remember during our flights.  You are welcome to refer all pals to this invitation blog post.

Overview of a sample flight:

This is a small example (sample) flight of our part as one plane flying in  a  tribute mission.

—-> The Aviators Club  @theaviatorsclub welcomes and requests that all #TheAviators remember this is a solemn occasion and to please remember to fly and tweet with polite decorum.

—–>The Aviators Club @theaviatorsclub will introduce your Flight Team Leader.

Flight Team Leader prompts pilots into the air requesting they use their call signs while circling around #TheAviators aerodrome .

We  then tweet:

Tango Delta Whiskey 33 – TDW33 – Captains Taz and Daisy – present for #TheAviators Tribute Mission (picture link)

3DogsWhite Avatar

Poem and Prayer followed by Missing Man (Friend) Formation  happens,  then Flight Team Leader requests all #TheAviators  to call who they are flying for this flight.

We tweet:

TDW33 flies for all the OTRB departed in loving memory of our brother Captain Buddy #TheAviators (picture link)

Captain Buddy In Memoriam

TDW33 then begins tweeting tribute tweets of anipals departed OTRB that we actually know and/or have been specifically asked to remember.

Flight Team Leader calls for tributes tweet from families, friends, guests that have pets departed OTRB  that they would like to remember.

This is OPEN PROGRAM time.  Pals, families, friends, guests can begin tweeting  using the hash tag – #TheAviators  – all aviators (including us) continue our own tribute tweets during OPEN PROGRAM time.

Based on our own personal account Twitter history – we know if properly spaced (about two minutes apart) Twitter allows us 20 tweets maximum in the one hour program time without being timed out by Twitter (known as Twitter jail) or even suspended.  As part of our total tweet count, we will include tweets of things that are meaningful to us:

 Tweet examples:

A Message From The Bridge by Daffy’s late mom Ingrid  – May it bring comfort to hurting hearts #TheAviators  (picture link)

A Message From The Bridge

For the animals sent OTRB for lack of adoption or home, #TheAviators remember you with great love. (picture link)

Open Heart Pink Sky

Flight Team Leader then calls tributes for those not named and alone and begins mission closing.

Flight Team Leader begins to prompt for all flyers to return to base and land upon completion of their tweets and gather in #TheAviators Lounge.    This begins the time for aviators to unwind and visit.  Pals and guests are also welcome to join us.

We tweet

Roger, copy that Flight Team Leader – TDW33 returning to base. It’s been our privilege to remember the OTRB during this #TheAviators flight.

Flight Team Leader closes the Tribute Mission Program.

Sample Tribute Tweets – Some of you have graphic applications and skills.  Those that do are always welcome to create for the tribute tweets you are doing.

You can then follow and participate in the entire flight.  Flight Team Leader and Instructor for both Southern and Northern Missions is @ToddyFur.   You will want to “keep eyes” out for  instruction tweets during both missions.

Applications like TweetDeck allow you to bring up #TheAviators hash tag and add it as a column to follow.  Applications like TweetDeck allows to have both #TheAviators column and add @ToddyFur (user) column right next to it for this coming flight.

You are then able to see all  #TheAviators plus keep close track on our Flight Team Leader’s tweet instructions. IF #TheAviators hash tag is running too fast for you to be comfortable – switch to @ToddyFur tweet page for flight prompts.

(This is not an advertisement for TweetDeck or the use of TweetDeck Every individual must find their way with their own technology devices.)

ONE HOUR PROGRAM – The entire flight will last for one hour, although often eager and welcome aviators begin to report in, meet up and greet each other, have that hello and chatty social time  fifteen minutes prior to scheduled class start time.  Early, on time, even a little late, it is OK to come to school!

BRAND NEW AVIATORS – the most important things besides your wonderful and existing enthusiasm to bring to Advanced Flight School is  (1)  your call sign (personal flight name).   Here’s the chart to pick one out – if you have not done so already and (2) use #TheAviators in each tweet.

Flight name

ALL  #TheAviators club members  –  You all are welcome to Twitter fly any scheduled mission whether you do or do not have your Basic Flight School license.  Just come fly anytime you want to!

WINGPALS (helpers to new flyers) – Experienced #TheAviators are always welcome to fly and give a little convo (conversation) – hello and tweet assist when they are able to fly.  We know when we were new Twitter flyers it was fairly daunting some days.  We do remember fondly those fellow club members that tweet reached out our way with a bit of guidance and encouragement.

#TheAviators  Advanced Flight School held on Twitter  is a step-by-step course taught with pictures.  A  certificate  is given for flying by @ToddyFur who will tell you more about that when the time comes during classes.

Thank you for attending  Advanced Flight School.  FUN – getting together to fly.  FUN –  “learning new flight things”.

Flight School Beginners

15 AUGUST 2015 –  2 flight sessions taught on Twitter.

See Time Zones/Cities Chart posted further down in this blog for times/date in your part of the world

15 August 2015   – Flight Instructor @ToddyFur will instruct both the Southern and Northern Missions and will make your #TheAviators BASIC LICENSE.

Wear your goggles. (Use them as your avatar).

Please keep them on until your #TheAviators license has been issued to you.  (@ToddyFur issues the licenses)

Use #TheAviators in all your tweets so you may all see each other and follow #TheAviators hash tag to follow the school program.   Keep “eyes out” there for your Flight Leader’s instruction tweets.  New Twitter flyers if #TheAviators hash tag should run too fast for you, switch over to @ToddyFur tweet page for your flight instruction tweets.

Those of you with protected (locked) tweet accounts will need to unlock to be seen on #TheAviators hash tag stream.

How to:

Unlock and re-lock after mission:  please go to your profile page, click on the gear wheel icon and go to settings to unlock, save the changes and refresh the page.   After the mission, you can go to the same place to lock back up again.

How to:

Bring up #TheAviators hash tag page in direct (regular) twitter:   Put  #TheAviators into Twitter’s search feature (the place with the magnifying glass icon).  When that page comes up, click on All  (so all tweets are shown).

In “Direct Twitter” —>    #TheAviators Hash Tag Page ALL Tweets (Showing)

Applications like TweetDeck do allow you to bring up #TheAviators hash tag and add it as a column to follow. Applications like TweetDeck allow you to add a user column like your Flight Team Leader so you can directly see their Flight Instruction tweets if you want to.

Southern Mission and Northern Mission are class session terms to define a worldwide schedule.  All #TheAviators are always welcome to fly the schedule that suits their personal needs best.

Pilots meet up and greet 15 minutes prior to Basic Flight School beginning class time (when possible).  Your Flight Leader will often give you a pre-flight briefing.  Early, on time or even a little late, it is ok to come to flight school.

BRING YOUR CALL SIGN:   You need your call sign each time you fly  #TheAviators.   Your call sign will be placed on your #TheAviators license on completion of Basic Flight School.   Here’s the chart to choose a call sign if you have not done so previously.

Flight name

Here’s the example of what  #TheAviators license will look like.

Flying license example

#TheAviators Basic Flight School is a step-by-step course taught with pictures. There is usually a small quiz at the end of the course. Your instructor will give you directions at that time on what to do.

WINGPALS  – Often experienced licensed #TheAviators come to Basic Flight School to refresh their own knowledge and to support newly flying #TheAviators .    You are wanted and welcomed to please come fly and coach, encourage, mentor new flyers.

Often #TheAviators who self-studied for their license come to Basic Flight School for the group warmth, camaraderie and tweet conversation.

You ALL are among friends. It’s exciting and pleasant.

#TheAviators Graduates NOV DEC 2014 – JAN 2015

Congratulations and well done to #TheAviators graduates of Basic Flight School held in two sessions on Twitter – Saturday,  November 1,  2014 and to those #TheAviators who have chosen or will choose to self- study the Basic Flight School slides and complete the quiz to earn their Basic #TheAviators Twitter flying license this quarter.

Leadership team overwhelming recommends individual #TheAviators to come to Basic Flight School and earn their license. ALL #TheAviators, please feel welcome and come fly for a refresher, to coach and/or mentor new flyers or simply enjoy a #TheAviators flight. The group fun, camaraderie and yes, even chaos of learning aviation terms and Twitter flying is without compare.

(Special Note: Any of #TheAviators may come and Twitter-fly at any time with or without having a Basic License. The license is an achievement we as a club are very proud to offer you to earn.)

SELF- STUDY – So what does “Self-Study” mean? On occasion(s) some of #TheAviators are not able to attend the two sessions of Basic Flight School on the quarterly scheduled date and they want #TheAviators Basic Twitter flying license. #TheAviators has provided a way to self-study. That club blog post follows. Clicking on it will bring up the page in a new window or tab.

Festive Flight

Captain Toddy Furrington @ToddyFur was goggled to #TheAviators Spring of 2013 and became one of #TheAviators leadership team in Summer of 2013.   His participation and leadership  is priceless to #TheAviators as he does the majority of graphics work (posters, new members goggling) – consultation and work for other flyers who wish to do an adventure and a huge volume of behind the scenes planning  hours and administrative work all very key and vital to the benefit of #TheAviators.

DECEMBER 6 – “NORTHERN LIGHTS”  two flights led by @OllyTed to the sights of Finland including those Northern Lights.

Northern Lights

Captain Olly @OllyTed is one of the early #TheAviators who joined at the beginning of the club in May of 2012.  Captain Olly has provided a large amount of behind the scenes security for numerous #TheAviators flights through these two and a half years.  We are thrilled @OllyTed will lead a wonderful adventure as this!

JULY 27 and AUGUST 3 – SCOTLAND (HIGHLANDS) led by @MungoFuzzy  – Originally intended on July 27  to be a one flight small mini-adventure experience for #TheAviators to fly and demonstrate how any member may put an adventure together – it was far too popular a first flight with abundant scenery, places, narratives and even one stop to design and loom one’s own Tartan.  #TheAviators in the Southern Hemisphere then specifically requested to have a flight (AUGUST 3)  in their time zones which also worked out beautifully for those of the United Kingdom and Central Europe who had not been able to fly the JULY 27 date.  We believe we remember hearing the descriptive words “smashing adventure” several times.  Intended as a demonstration flight,  no certificates were issued but an amazing amount of fun was had by all #TheAviators who had the opportunity to fly July 27 and August 3.
